Will my baby be well fed if I give him just breast milk? Until when is it ok to breastfeed him? Will I go out of milk if I skip feedings? These and many other frequent questions will be answer by the expert Alba Padró in a light, practical and up-to-date book that remembers us that we are extraordinary!
The arrival of a new baby -even more if it’s your first one- changes your life completely. There’s a part of you that knows it can’t be that hard, because mums everywhere seem to get ahead. The other part can panic if it starts thinking what are you going to do with your baby once you exit the hospital. There’s a big chance it will be the first baby you ever hold in your arms for longer than ten minutes in your whole life.
“Somos la leche”, with means something like “We are the bomb”, is Alba Padró’s new book to help women that desire to breastfeed their babies and feel self-conscious. The goal is to help them clearing their doubts, but overall to go along with them so they can enjoy this stage free of worries. Because, unlike what many believe, a woman doesn’t have to instinctively know how to breastfeed.
And, what is it that has changed? Why is it that years ago no mother needed a book to breastfeed their children, and know they do? The answer is simple; families were bigger before and generations were closer too. Women grew seeing their mothers raising the younger siblings, took care of nephews, saw their own friends and shared many more moments than us… But our current fast-paced makes us debut with babies just when we have our own. The lack of references, along with the huge amount of myths surrounding lactation, make a really useful tool of Alba Padró’s book.
Alba Padró relies on her own experience as mother, and on the cases oh the thousands of mothers she’s helped through 17 years of lactation consultancy. She is also a clinical assistant and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Furthermore, a couple years ago she went further and created -along with her partner María Berruezo- LactApp, a mobile app about health and lactation that accompanies both mother and baby from pregnancy and until weaning.
Like Alba Padró says “the benefits of breastfeeding are well known but there’s a huge lack of knowledge on normal lactation and, in general, maternity and the physiological needs of the baby. Based on my experience and the knowledge acquired during all these years helping breastfeeding mothers I have written a book that lets women understand, solve and anticipate every situation they may encounter during the whole lactation process. This book is my personal contribution to all those women who want to nurse their children and are having doubts, fears or just stumble into some difficulty along the way”.
This book includes passages about forgotten topics such as the feud between bottle and breast feeding moms, prolonged breastfeeding or what happens when there is a miscarriage. A wide review from the most common doubts to the rarest situations.
